Feat feast extraordinaire
This set list was too juicy to pass up despite the audience recording, and man was it worth it! The sound is almost as good as you can get from an audience taper, with a little echo that gives a feel for what it's like to be in the crowd. After all, it is by the legendary Feat archivist Chris C., so how bad could it be? You do need to crank it to hear everybody, but you'd crank it anyway. The only glitch with the sound is a jump in the levels at the beginning of the fourth track on disc one. It'll wake you up and after that it sounds even better.
These two-set three-CD shows are a always treat. So many highlights... what a great night for Bill Payne, with his too-rarely-played Blue Jean Blues, Under the Radar amid a blistering Dog Races, and a full-blown Gringo in the Chicken marathon. Those are my three favorite Bill songs and they're all beautifully done. Fat Man includes a long pedal to the metal drum solo from Richie Hayward -- I've never heard a better one. If you like your Feat served Louisiana style, there's plenty of Blue Jean Romance-Finance Rad Gumbo for ya. The whopping Chicken entrée features all the trimmings, and The Weight makes for a great dessert. Passing up this feast is a huge mistake.
